Description

The wager: to poach a salmon, grouse and a deer from three Royal Estates. The challengers: three men in a mid-life crisis who should know better. The wild card: a flirtatious female journalist who won't take no for an answer. Striding over the Scottish Highlands with a poet's eye on the wilderness and a firm grip on the adventure, Andrew Greig reimagines John Buchan's classic novel with a little less tweed, a little more sex, and just the right measure of whisky.

Author Biography

Andrew Greig is the author of six acclaimed books of poetry, two Himalayan mountaineering expedition books, and five novels including That Summer, When They Lay Bare and Romanno Bridge. His non-fiction books include Preferred Lies and At the Loch of the Green Corrie. He lives in Orkney and Edinburgh, with his wife, the novelist Lesley Glaister.

Reviews

'Highly engaging' * Sunday Herald * Greig...writes beautifully and the story gallops along * Sunday Times * You could easily make a case that Andrew Greig has the greatest range of any living Scottish writer * Scotsman * If you have a desire to luxuriate in the most beautiful use of the English language borne along by the love of one gifted poet for a recognized master of melancholy, then this is the book for you. It most certainly is the book for me * Billy Connolly on At the Loch of the Green Corrie * One of the best historical novels of recent years, Greig dusts off the past and presents it with tremendous skill * Literary Review on Fair Helen *
