Description

This ain't your parents' parenting book. In parenting, there is a case to be made for putting your oxygen mask on first. This refreshingly humorous yet effective guide on the oh-so-serious business of parenting reminds us that being a successful parent means first being a successful human. Part philosophy, part implementation-including recipes, tips, and exercises-Sid Garza-Hillman's damn-is-it-tough-to-stay-happy-and-healthy-these-days resource is a must-have for anyone who is or will be a parent. In the complicated, fast-paced world of raising children, it is easy to forget that a family is really the sum of its parts. In Raising Healthy Parents: Small Steps, Less Stress, and a Thriving Family, Sid Garza-Hillman expounds on his premise that health and happiness, like the body and mind, are inextricably linked. And while this book is essentially about perfecting the imperfect art of parenting, Garza-Hillman puts the focus squarely on the individual. Equal parts philosophy and reality, this edgy and humorous guide to parenting offers simple, life-altering steps that will bring wellness and harmony to the parent, and, as a result, the whole family . Raising Healthy Parents contains easy-to-do tasks, lessons, resources and simple recipes, but it is much more than a simple to-do list. As parents explore themselves, their forgotten dreams, their abandoned passions, Garza-Hillman will show them that easing into healthy choices will benefit them, their spouses, and most important, their children. And because there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting, the specific needs and motivations of each family dictate the size and frequency of Garza-Hillman's Small Steps. This book provides the basic principles on how to live your best life and make happiness, low stress, low conflict, and fun the starting point for a life-long endeavor.

Reviews

"Sid Garza-Hillman is a wellness guru and a treasured source of practical tips perfect for weary parents wanting to make a meaningful shift in their lifestyle. We love Sid's direct and comedic approach to creating a healthy and happy family in a modern-day world." -Rich Roll, podcaster & author of Finding Ultra, and Julie Platt, author of This Cheese is Nuts, parents and coauthors of The Plantpower Way "There are so many people out there speaking about 'Wellness,' but few do it as practically as Sid Garza-Hillman. After all, I can tell you the science behind a healthy diet, but I cannot tell you how to make living healthy normal while working and caring for a family. Sid is extremely knowledgeable, very entertaining, and most important, skillful at guiding you to a healthy lifestyle. This is a must-read for busy families looking for a better way." -Garth Davis, MD, author of Proteinaholic "Parenting will never be easy. But it can be a heck of a lot more rewarding, enjoyable, and effective with the right mind-set and communication strategies. Raising Healthy Parents is a sane, funny, and eminently practical guide to the journey of a lifetime. If your parenting could use an infusion of joy, clarity, and compassion, Sid is your guide, and Raising Healthy Parents is your user's manual." -Howard Jacobson, PhD, host of The Plant Yourself Podcast, contributing author to Proteinaholic and Whole "Small Steps for the win! For achieving a healthier, happier family, you've found the best approach for creating lasting change and the best person you could have chosen to be your guide on this journey." -Matt Frazier, author of No Meat Athlete and The No Meat Athlete Cookbook "A fun, easy-to-read, practical parenting book that cuts the crap and gimmicks to focus on the real goal: happiness. Sid Garza-Hillman's approach centers around becoming a happy and well-balanced parent, and, in turn, raising healthy, thriving, and yes, happy children. A must-read for new parents like myself." -Doug Hay, founder of Rock Creek Runner and cohost of No Meat Athlete Radio "As parents, we are inundated with information about how to raise our children but receive little, if any, guidance on how to raise ourselves. Healthy, active, well-adjusted parents are more resilient and better suited to the task of child-rearing and LIFE. Sid Garza-Hillman walks us through the process of achieving this end in a practical, realistic, no BS way." -Aaron Stuber & Jackson Long of Thought for Food Lifestyle "'Parenting is an imperfect art.' It's not about following the latest model for modifying children's behaviors; it's about the parents. In his charismatic tone, Sid sets an example for parents to first understand more about themselves in order to build a healthy family. Whether your children are just a glimmer in your eye or getting ready to flee the nest, this is a must-read that will create a positive transformation for you, your home, and your family." -Adam & Shoshanna Chaim, cohosts of The Plant Trainers Podcast
