Description

Advanced Creative Draping teaches designers and students how to drape fashion-forward, conceptual designs that use elements of couture construction to elevate the work to the highest level of fashion. Five methods of draping are explored as well as draping using embellishments or particular surface designs. The final chapter demonstrates how to create a high quality heirloom garment. Featuring specially commissioned step-by-step photography, the book includes tips from designers working with draping methods today. Essentially an advanced textbook for the serious fashion student, it also serves as a workroom reference book for professional fashion and costume designers.

Reviews

This book is helpful to those who are focusing on draping and who want to push themselves further. The step-by step guide allows for students to independently learn and experiment, and the book includes a versatile range of garments/styles - it also includes details/trims and embellishments which is helpful for students to visually see how they can explore designs on the stand beyond the silhouette. This book would also be great for students working on their final collections - since some of the drapes are more advanced yet have clear step by step guides. KATIE ROE - LEEDS ARTS UNIVERSITY More creative and innovative ways for students to approach creative draping on the stand. DEBBIE ALLSOP - THE UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD This book is well written and user-friendly for students. It's beneficial for developing their draping skills further with really instructions and methods. We will be highly recommending this publication to our undergraduate students. The previous draping books by the same author all already on our recommended module lists. BASHIR ASWAT - UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD I find Karolyn Kiisel's books very clear in their instruction and helpful depending on what designs students are trying to solve. KRISTINA RYLANDER - SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN It gives a broad overview of draping approaches as background for students. ANNE RUTTER - PARSONS It has many great examples of designs and techniques. DELLA REAMS - MIAMI UNIVERSITY, OXFORD, OH I found this book to be an exciting and innovative take on dressmaking and creating garments. The book is easy to follow and beautifully written and illustrated. A wonderful continuation of Karolyn Kiisel's other Draping book, very inspiring. Fantastic series of books. ELEANOR MEAD- EAST COAST COLLEGE -- Eleanor Mead * East Coast College * We so enjoyed Draping by Karolyn Kiisel and the accompanying videos that having the advanced version just enhances our knowledge. Her book just opens the student's minds to possibilities on how to directly transform their artistic ideas into fashion. JUDITH SOLODKIN - SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS -- Judith Solodkin * School of Visual Arts * Advanced Creative Draping is like holding a private draping course in your own hands: objectives are laid out at the beginning of each chapter, detailed in a short lecture, and followed by a hands-on workshop in the form of step-by-step tutorials so that the reader may try out each technique for themselves. There is truly a term's worth of material provided to keep the curious draper very well occupied, with an admirable emphasis placed on slow, deliberate methods of couture sewing and craftsmanship that today's technical fashion teaching so badly needs-but so often lacks. - BERNADETTE BANNER -- Bernadette Banner
