Description
Everyone loves the big tree that stands at the heart of the village - especially Joseph. So when, one stormy night, the tree is blown down, Joseph carves a beautiful cradle from the trunk - for his new baby, Sisi, and for every baby born in the village from that day on. But when at last it is time for Sisi's own grandchild to be rocked in the cradle, a terrible fire strikes the village and the cradle disappears. Is Joseph's cradle lost forever?

Reviews"A lovely story enhanced by simple and colourful illustrations. It is about family, community, sharing, caring and creating your own traditions, firmly based in warm fellow feeling." * Carousel * "This gentle, charming book, set in South Africa, is a lovely evocation of life in a small village and the importance of traditions.he illustrations are delicate and detailed, with tiny glimpses of the insides of the thatched homes and depictions of animals and people. There's much to talk about here, and the vivid picture of a culture so different from our own is a treat in itself." * Books for Keeps 5 star review * "A heartwarming book with a strong and beautiful message, ideal for a reading session, that evolves into a class discussion and also as a guided reading text, to examine key themes, cultures, messages and morals that this book highlights." * Just Imagine * "This is the most wonderful story of family, generations, growth and the power and security of traditions." * Juno Magazine * "A lyrical story, one inspired by a true story, of hope, community, love and looking to the future with a positive outlook." * Parents in Touch *
