Reviews

Gamayun Tales I collects together three of Alexander Utkin's interconnected stories based on traditional Russian folklore, filled with warm firelight and heroic strangeness [...] Utkin's words and images weave powerfully together to create an enduring sense of enchantment. * The Guardian * The real star is Utkin's breathtaking visuals, in which chalky textures and vibrant tones of mustard, ruby, and cerulean create striking moments. * Publishers Weekly * Accessibly priced at just GBP12.99 it gives a whole new audience of readers an opportunity to enjoy these stunningly illustrated folktales. * Broken Frontier * Gamayun Tales is a very engaging read with extraordinary art capturing the mood of fairy tales. It should delight young readers and keep older ones pretty happy also. -- Karl Verhoven * The Slings & Arrows Graphic Novel Guide * It feels like this book was purposefully made to be shared with others, for families to read together for many years to come. -- Luke Cornelius * Multiversity Comics * This is a mind-blowingly bold and inventive banquet of traditional Russian folklore given a unique, modern twist - a cornucopia of Slavic adventures that thrill, enchant and give fresh life to timeless tales. -- Joanne Owen * lovereading4kids * The stories all preach mercy, love, restraint and a sense of awe for nature and animals. Things we all need to keep in mind in today's complex and angry world. * The Comic Crush * Gamayun Tales vol 1 is nicely designed (with a textured cover, no less), and bold panels that do great service to the storytelling work. Utkin is an artist, for sure. * Dr. J Reads * An extraordinary graphic novel, every word, frame, illustration and placement is perfect. * @childrensbookshoplondon on Instagram * The stories contained in these pages seemed both wonderfully new and comforting familiar at the same time. * Fandom Made * Beautiful opening to a beautiful book, o'er-brimming with opulence and mesmerising from cover to cover. * Page 45 * A Bona fide masterpiece. * @NickBrokenshire on Twitter * The great Russian folk tales tradition becomes alive in the glorious, expressive, and organic colourful pastels of Alexander Utkin's Tales. * @PedroMo16181888 on Twitter * Filled with gorgeous illustrations and telling the story of modern Russian folk tales. Brilliantly woven and interesting stories too. * @eenalol on Twitter *
