The epic poem by the twelfth-century Persian mystic and poet Attar of Nishapur, is here re-told by the acclaimed author and illustrator Peter Sis in a dazzlingly new graphic form. Part allegorical quest, part spiritual meditation, Sis's sumptuously re-imagined adaptation traces the adventures of a flock of birds, led by the hoopoe, their different species reflecting the range of human character.

Peter Sis journeyed to Martinique, the inspiration for the island where Robinson Crusoe was marooned, to research the flora and fauna for this book. When he isn't travelling the globe, he creates books and fine art that can be seen in galleries, museums and public spaces around the world.
