Description
Are cannibals civilised? Is the guillotine a humane form of execution? Would you be prepared to die to defend your beliefs? The story of human civilization is written in blood, so how did we end up where we are today? With a mix of provocative facts, gory details and amazing stories of personal courage, Beverley MacDonald takes us on a race through history, as she asks the biggest question of all: what sort of society do you want to live in?
Author Biography
Beverley MacDonald was born and raised in Victoria. Her paternal grandfather was an ANZAC at Gallipoli and France; her father was a primary school teacher in regional Victoria. After the publication of her first novel she went back to school and completed a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing. She is a qualified editor and currently works in children's television. Andrew Weldon's cartoons have appeared in newspapers, magazines, on greeting cards and as tattoos. They also appeared in Beverley's earlier book about the history of explosions, Big Bangs. Andrew has recently published his first book of cartoons, I'm So Sorry Little Man, I Thought You Were a Hand-puppet.
ReviewsQuite simply a superb example of narrative non-fiction...If you can read this and then say history is boring, you have no soul. - The UK Guardian 8 Nov 2003.
