Author Biography

Rachel started her career as a writer very young, with her first poems published without her knowing! At school she became known as the Poetess and she still lives up to that name. Her own reading of The Childe of Hale (her first book) still gives the Maverick team goosebumps! (Click here to listen) Rachel lives in St.Helens with her husband and her little girl, Daisy. Author of: The Cautionary Tale of the Childe of Hale, I Wish I'd Been Born a Unicorn and Not Enough for Queen Fluff Vanina was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1981. She graduated as a graphic designer at the University of Buenos Aires in 2005. She trained in the art of illustrating children's books with Jose Sanabria for five years in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied at the same school with the illustrator Oscar Rojas and Ana Morra. She attended the picture book workshop with the illustrator Gianni de Conno in Milan, Italy. Her first picture book "Dancing in the Clouds" was finalist in the "III International Compostela Award for Picture Books" in Spain. Her second picture book "Red Ball" received an honorable mention in the "A la orilla del viento" picture book contest in Mexico in 2010. Her third picture book "Flowers in the Desert" also received another honorable mention in the "Invenciones International Picture Book Contest" in Mexico in 2011.
