Description

This is a new edition of Peter Oliver's classic work Free Movement of Goods in the European Community (now, in the light of the Lisbon Treaty revisions "European Union") which has established itself as one of the leading works of reference on European law for practitioners and academics alike. Indeed, whether advising clients or preparing for teaching there is no European lawyer who can afford not to have a copy of this book close to hand. Concise, precise, and lucid, the book has become the first port of call for anyone seeking answers to questions about the foundations of free movement of goods in the EU. With specialist chapters written by leading academic and practising lawyers, including Peter Oliver himself, this edition has been extensively rewritten to take into account recent judgments from the ECJ, including important cases such as C-110/05 Commission v Italy ("trailers") and C- 142/05 Mickelsson ("jet skis"), both of which relate to restrictions on the use of goods. It also takes account of all the recent European legislation and the impact of the Lisbon Treaty.

Reviews

This is an impressive book and not simply because of its imposing size or its impeccable delivery but mainly because of its comprehensive coverage and the quality of the commentaries it contains. It is, overall, an essential point of reference for everyone, whether they are legal experts or teachers and whether they have to juggle with the subtleties and complexities of European law on the free movement of goods in the Union. Agence Europe's 'European Library' No. 10397/918 Be you practitioner or academic, if you are involved in either teaching, or advising clients on European law, you need Peter Oliver's classic work, which, since the first edition was published, has come to be regarded as one of the leading works of reference in this field. Here, in 15 chapters and just over 500 pages, you'll find answers to virtually any questions you may have about -- in the author's words -- 'the foundations of free movement of goods in the European Union'. This is a careful and thorough work of reference of over 500 pages, lucidly structured for ease of use Carrying the weight of authority and a towering reputation as the definitive work of reference on the subject, it's the latest edition of this book and will help you provide your clients with the most up to date advice and informed representation in this complex area. Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers June 2011 A real classic, an indispensible reference work to have at hand at all times Luigi Daniele Studi sull 'integrazione europea May 2011 At over 500 pages this is a substantial work and in its latest and greatly expanded edition is a leading authority on one of the fundamental principles that underpins the EU: the free movement of goods. The book is well structured and easy to navigate. The introduction of a separate chapter relating to intellectual property is welcome given the number of cases in that area. There are also separate chapters on areas such as agriculture and fisheries, state monopolies, and the relationship with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, the EU's partners in the European Economic Area - within which the same free movement rules apply. Ease of navigation is greatly aided by case tables, statute tables and a comprehensive index. It is an impressive work and one that I hope will circulate widely within the EU.
