Description

This award-winning and poignant picture book is about remembering those who serve in war. Left! Left! Left! Right! Left! We make our way in the dark. A family journeys through the early morning darkness ... A group of young men huddle in a cold muddy trench ... Reflection is a powerful tribute to those who have served their country.

Author Biography

Rebecka Sharpe Shelberg is a librarian, children's author and general book enthusiast, who lives in Sydney, Australia, with her bearded husband, two small mischievous children, two fluffy dogs and a bearded dragon. Though she is obsessed with books of all kinds, she is particularly enamoured with picture books and would happily spend an entire day (and a year's salary) in a good bookstore. Her first picture book, Reflection, was a CBCA Notable book for 2017. Robin Cowcher is a freelance illustrator and currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. She studied at RMIT and worked for many years at The Age as an art director, illustrator and designer. Her picture books with Walker include Little Dog and the Christmas Wish and Little Dog and the Summer Holiday, both written by Corinne Fenton.

Reviews

The story-telling is mesmerising, and the illustrations constantly reveal new details hidden in the images. * Bookrapt * The gentle thoughtfulness of this book brought tears to my eyes. A very special book to be treasured by those with family who have served in our military or peacekeeping forces, or those who appreciate and respect the sacrifice of our servicemen and women. * Kids' Book Review * Rebecka Sharpe Shelberg has chosen her words carefully for young readers. Robin Cowcher, the illustrator has done a superb job with the illustrations - pen drawings with a watercolour wash. They are simple but compliment the story beautifully. * Bookseller NZ * This book adds to the range of books available to remind students about war and its cost, of the many wars Australia has been involved in and the way we remember. And the beautiful water colour wash illustrations reflect this theme to perfection. * Read Plus * beautiful and haunting... Reflection is an appropriate book title, as we reflect on Australia's role in war and peacekeeping efforts this Anzac Day. -- Leanne Barrett * Kids' Book Review *
