Description

The intimate, definitive biography of Neil Armstrong's inspiring life story written by one of America's great space journalists. Everything written about Armstrong's life and flights has been from the outside looking in; Jay Barbree is the only person Neil Armstrong trusted to share close personal details of his life. Through his friendship with Neil and his dedicated research, Barbree provides the inside story of an extraordinary career, from flying combat missions in the Korean War to commanding the Apollo 11 mission to the moon's Sea of Tranquility. He also details Armstrong's personal life, including his two marriages and the tragic death of his baby daughter. Working from years of notes, and with the Armstrong family, Jay Barbree brings us the definitive biography of America's most famous astronaut and one of our greatest modern heroes. '...a heroic portrait of both Armstrong and the USA space program' - The Saturday Paper 'A riveting insight into the man history will remember as the first person to step on a world other than our own' - The Australian

Author Biography

In the course of his 57-year career with NBC News, Jay Barbree is the only reporter to have covered all 166 American astronaut flights and moon landings. He received an Emmy for his coverage of Neil Armstrong's first walk on the moon, broke the cause of the Challenger accident, and he still covers space for NBC's TV networks and NBCnews.com. Barbree was also the lead writer for the New York Times bestseller Moon Shot with astronauts Alan Shepard, Deke Slayton, and Neil Armstrong.
