The past few decades have seen a rapid growth in Chinese language teaching materials, but very little for advanced learning. This textbook is designed specifically for advanced Chinese learners in Western universities. Postgraduate students in Chinese studies, anthropology and international relations will also find this textbook useful as it follows an interdisciplinary learning approach and includes a strong research component.

Dr Wang Ping is a senior lecturer in the School of Humanities and Languages, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the University of New South Wales. She is the co-author of Daxue and Zhongyong, Biligual Edition (with Ian Johnston, 2012). Dr Chen Yangbin is Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities at La Trobe University. He is the co-editor of Multicultural Education in China: Balancing Unity with Diversity (with James Leibold, 2014) and the author of Muslim Uyghur Students in a Chinese Boarding School: Social Recapitalization as a Response to Ethnic Integration (2008).
