Author Biography

Karen Chernick is a Tel Aviv-based writer who prides herself on knowing obscure historic facts about the cityscape, plus the best place to get lunch. She can often be found at recently opened art exhibitions, the market, or walking along the Mediterranean (a view that never gets old). Her stories about hidden gems and worth-splurging eats have been featured on Smithsonian, Atlas Obscura, Artsy, Haaretz, and The Times of Israel , among other publications. Shira Rubin is an award-winning journalist who's lived in Israel for the past decade. She regularly writes about travel, food, tech, politics and culture for The Atlantic, Foreign Policy, Bloomberg, the BBC and several other outlets. Shira has been living in the Middle East since 2010, when she studied Arabic as part of a US State Department scholarship in Cairo in the months leading up to the Arab Spring. Shira speaks English, Hebrew, Arabic and French. She is based out of Tel Aviv.
