Reviews

...has a high tech flare and offers an adrenaline of a pulse pounding ride.-- "NetGalley Review" A good book for young boys who are adventurous.-- "NetGalley review" Carl Bowen's Shadow Squadron is a Tom Clancy type military series written for young readers (third or fourth grade). He keeps the action true to life without the gore. . . .His use and understanding of military weapons and nomenclature is good and will appeal to young readers wanting that kind of detail. Wilson Tortosa and Benny Fuentes (drawings and color in that order) provide great, colorful illustrations filled with action and suspense.-- "NetGalley Review" In four short stories author Carl Bowen introduces readers to the men, missions, and mystique of the elite, Special Forces soldiers who make up Shadow Squadron. Written in a near comic book style and enhanced by colorful illustrations that pop off the pages, this collection of tales will appeal to readers who enjoy military action writing.-- "Children's Literature" My students, particularly the boys, are loving this book and the series! Well done!-- "NetGalley review" STAR REVIEW! As the men ready for their missions, there is almost a superhero aspect to the proceedings, but one look at the newspaper will make readers realize that such acts are happening even now in the real world. It's breathtaking to the word, and Bowen brings readers there without hysterics but with a clipped language and smoky pungency that allows them to taste the events. Top-drawer renderings of secret military missions around the globe, without jingoistic ballyhoo.-- "Kirkus Reviews"
