Description
Seven anxious mother animals ask the title question, "Where is my baby?" The babies are revealed beneath each flap, as are their particular baby animal names (piglet, kid, chick, lamb, etc.), and each makes its signature sound (an oink, moo, meow, quack, chirp, baa, etc.). When turned, the flap changes the mother's expression from worried to delighted. Somehow, Mr. Taback is able to capture a mother's fond look on each of his animal creations. The last spread shows a parade of all the mother and baby pairs.
Author Biography
Harriet Ziefert knows that young children want to be instantly engaged by and get their hands on the pages of beginning books . She has applied this seemingly simple insight to dozens of enduring and engaging board books, many created in partnership with the great Simms Taback. The author lives in South Orange, NJ. Simms Taback won a Caldecott Honor Award for "There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly" and the Caldecott Medal for "Joseph Had a Little Overcoat." He has also produced award-winning titles for Blue Apple Books, such as "Peek-a-Boo, Who?" (2006 Scholastic Parent & Child Best Book of the Year) and "Simms Taback's Big Book of Words" (2004 Parenting and Child magazines Best Book of the Year, and 2004 Parents' Choice Gold Award winner).
ReviewsAmazon customer review: "This book makes wonderful use of flaps. It has been one of my son's favorite books since he was 12 months old!The pages are made of sturdy material [that] helps it hold up to many "self" readings by my baby! The lively colored art keeps both child and parents' attention. A must buy! I am giving it to every child on our Holiday list this year."
