Description

From the inimitable Natalia and Lauren O'Hara, Once Upon a Fairytale is story where the reader gets to decide on the adventure, and the possibilities are endless. Did you ever wish to feast with fairies, live in a tree, or ride a unicorn across the sun-lit sky? Here, in this magical world, you can. You can choose to be a clever princess, or a curious gingerbread man, or perhaps a gentle knight. Maybe you'll live in a tree, or a tower on a hill. You can eat fresh-buttered sunbeams with fairies, or newt pie and pigtail pudding with ogres. Everywhere you look, you will find a new adventure. Just pick the one you like best. A captivating book where the child chooses the story they want to tell - empowering young children to become storytellers and weave their very own fairytale.

Natalia and Lauren O'Hara are sisters from the North of England. As children they loved fairy tales, picking blackberries and fighting dragons in the garden. Natalia, who writes their books, studied English at Oxford University and afterwards worked as a travel writer and script developer. Lauren, who illustrates, studied Fine Art and Illustration at Kingston before designing window displays and sets for television. The sisters live in London and Dublin. Once Upon A Fairytale is their fourth book together.

Reviews

Perfect for summer holidays, this inventive interactive book allows the reader to choose from half a dozen options on almost every page ... Pop it in your suitcase for a different story every night. -- Sally Morris * Daily Mail * Picture books with choices are always enjoyably interactive ... Although the choices make each reading different, they are built around a skeleton narrative that echoes many traditional stories. Readers can feel clever if they can identify the sources of the allusions: a broken chair, say, or a gingerbread man. The naive illustrations of castles, creatures and landscapes in an unacademic style add to the sense of a childlike spirit being in charge. -- Nicolette Jones * Sunday Times Culture * Become the hero of your own fairytale in this beautifully illustrated choose-your-own-adventure book. Will you ride on a unicorn or feast with fairies? You decide! -- Sarah Webb * Irish Independent * Books like 'Would you rather...' are often firm favourites and requested again and again. This book seems no exception to that rule and needing to remember what has been chosen adds to the over all effect. This has the feel of a future classic to add to the genre of books where the reader chooses and a great idea for starting telling and writing stories as well. * ReadingZone * Superbly interactive with hundreds of possible combinations, this captivating magical book is an empowering springboard to encourage young readers to let their imaginations soar off to that once upon a time world of fairyland, creating a new and exciting adventure every time they pick up this book.
