Description

Age range 6 to 9 A reindeer treks a continent under unimaginable weather extremes. One tiny bird flies non-stop for nine days, while another flies from the north to south pole (and back!) every year. A whale swims around an entire hemisphere. Animal Migrations: Flying, Walking, Swimming offers a fascinating insight into the what, where, why and how of these incredible journeys of survival. It explores the migrations of mammals, birds, insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans and aquatic microorganisms. Discover exceptional and unusual journeys, their effect on our world, and how we can help these migrating animals. The remarkable adventures covered in Animal Migrations show strength, determination, inbuilt knowledge and the importance of community across global connections. Reading level varies from child to child, but we recommend this book for ages 6 to 9.

Reviews

"Animal life cycles, behaviour, and biodiversity are all covered in Animal Migrations, with detailed information, many photographs, a glossary and recommended further reading in awell-designed package. Animal Migrations offers a wealth of information, perfect for assignments, or for anyone wanting to learn more about the animal world." -- Shayne Wardrop * Kids' Book Review * "This informative and attractively presented book provides snapshots of migrating animals from across the globe. The journeys are long, dangerous, and often arduous yet will surprise the reader with how complex and determined each species is to reach their destination." -- Kathryn Beilby * Readplus * "Divided into sections on flying, walking and swimming migrations, beautiful photographs of creatures such as caribou, wildebeest, whales, penguins, bats, shearwaters, crabs and salmon are shown, and their travels explained. [...] This is a good introduction to this intriguing subject. The text is accurate but not too complicated and tinged with touches of humour. There are maps, a glossary, and an index along with a further reading section. Teachers Notes are available from the CSIRO website." -- Lynne Babbage * CBCA Reading Time *
