Description

"U.S. Deputy Marshal Morgan Clyde has worn a tin star long enough to leave a .45-caliber mark on the Indian Territory, but the years and miles are wearing on him. For every enemy he's laid low, he's made more in the process, which isn't a good thing with the territory running wilder than ever and the Hanging Judge in Fort Smith determined to bring it to heel. And it just got worse when a rich man's family is kidnapped by as bloody a gang of outlaws as anyone has ever seen. Morgan's going to need all the allies he can get, but who'll ride with him? The family he once had hates him, and fallible friends and the women in his life may prove more deadly than any adversary. If he's going to survive, he'll have to be quicker on the trigger than any man ever born, and he'll have to watch his back. For the bullet that eventually gets you is usually the one you don't expect, especially for those too proud to run"--

Author Biography

Award-winning author, Brett Cogburn, was reared in Texas and the mountains of Southeastern Oklahoma. He had the fortune for many years to make his living from the back of a horse, where cowboys still step on frisky broncs on cold mornings, and drag calves to the branding fire on the end of a rope from their saddlehorn. Growing up around ranches, livestock auctions, oilfield rig sites, and backwoods hunting camps filled his head with stories, and he never forgot a one. In his own words, "My grandfather taught me to ride a bucking horse, my mother gave me a love of reading, and my father taught me how to shoot straight. Cowboys are just as wild as they ever were, and I've been fortunate enough to know more than a few." Whether setting his novels in the Old West or the Twenty-First Century, Brett focuses on characters, the real and the eccentric. His list of novels include Panhandle, The Texans, and Forty Loads, Destiny, Texas, Two-Dollar Pistol, and Widowmaker Jones, with more on the way. He holds a BA in English with a minor in history, and currently makes his home with his family on a little ranch in Oklahoma.
