Description

From the team behind the acclaimed Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise comes a very scary read-aloud story ... or is it? Monster wants to be in a scary story - but is he brave enough? Scary stories have creepy witches and creaky stairs and dark hallways and spooky shadows... Oh my goodness me! That is very scary. Maybe, a funny story would be better after all? Brilliantly interactive, children will delight in the wickedly funny turn-of-the-pages, see themselves in the goofy, unconventional monster, and revel in the bold, hilarious illustration of celebrated graphic artist, Jean Jullien.

Reviews

"[...] a playful, inventive read-aloud tale" * The Bookseller * "A fun, jumpy read." * Sunday Express Magazine * "Sean Taylor knows just how much scariness little monsters, purple or otherwise, can take, and his clever scaling back of the terror as the tale proceeds, is spot on for keeping young listeners on the edge of their seats. Equally Jean Jullien's creepy scenes have a sufficient degree of zaniness to grip but not unduly alarm; and that final twist really hits the spot." * Red Reading Hub * "With its witty dialogue between reader and character, Sean Taylor's playful book is perfect for children of a more nervous disposition, and we love the in-your-face artwork by hot French graphic designer Jean Jullien, too." * Gurgle * "We laughed and laughed" * BooksForBoysWeb.wordpress.com * "[...] beautifully cute [...] wonderful to read aloud [...] has a classic Meg and Mog feel to it" * Down The Rabbit Hole * "The bright, bold illustrations which fill each page are great for drawing children in, building anticipation and making us wonder what will happen next. It's hard not to fall in love with Little Monster and his humorous antics." * childcareexpo.co.uk * "Ghoulish goodies abound for picture-book fans this Halloween, including I Want to Be in a Scary Story by Sean Taylor and Jean Jullien (Walker). [...] This is beautifully structured for reading aloud; a vibrant, viewpoint-flipping picture book that should lessen small readers' fairytale fears." * The Guardian * "The must-have picture book for this spooky season. [...] With catchy back-and-forth dialogue between the narrator and the characters, witches, haunted houses and ghosts everywhere, it'll have you roaring with laughter from start to finish. What more could your little monster want this Halloween?" * Ni4kids * "This book is brilliantly interactive, making it a perfect story time book." * Primary Times *
