Description

'The big trends in emerging technologies are in place if we want to be alert to them. In this book I traverse the worlds of social media, driverless cars, online retailing, travel, education, health, employment and the consequences of the great sin of any age - denial.' Wake Up is your guide to the biggest economic revolution in more than a century. Engaging and thought-provoking, author David Fagan explores the challenges and opportunities we face as we continue to adapt in the digital age. Highlighting the latest technologies at the forefront of this change, Fagan examines the disrupters who have gone on to become billionaires and those who have failed to adapt. Whether you are a parent trying to understand digital technology, an entrepreneur looking to chart success, or a manager wanting to understand how your customers live and behave - Wake Up chronicles the rise of social media, including Twitter and Facebook, the Uber and Airbnb phenomenon, the upending of traditional industries, the threat to jobs from robots and explains what this means for how we live, work and play. This is the book we all need to Wake Up with, now.

Author Biography

David Fagan has lived and breathed the digital revolution for almost two decades - first as one of Australia's most senior newspaper editors, and now as an executive charged with helping drive digital change at one of Australia's biggest universities. He's sat in a room with Rupert Murdoch studying how technology was upending journalism and the rivers of gold that have been the mainstay of newspapers. As editor-in-chief, he's designed and driven one of the biggest online news sites in the country. Now, as director of Corporate Transition at Queensland University of Technology, he uses his breadth of experience to run the Real World Futures program, which is dedicated to exploring and explaining how digital disruption is changing how we think, work and live. The Brisbane-based father-of-three is also a convert, of course, to Uber, Airbnb, social media, online shopping and drone racing.
