Small has also illustrated other acclaimed books, including the 2001 Caldecott Medal winner, So You Want to Be President? by Judith St. George, and his graphic memoir for adults, Stitches, a finalist for the National Book Award. Stewart and Small live in a historic home filled with thousands of books on a bend of the St. Joseph River in Michigan.
