Description

Even deadlier than terrorists . . . are the men trying to stop them. People-smuggling, counterfeit currency and attempted murder. It's all in a day's work for undercover cop Dan 'Spider' Shepherd. But what starts as a run-of-the mill investigation quickly turns into a matter of life and death when he uncovers a terrorist cell on a mission of death and destruction. The target: hundreds of passengers on a cross-channel train deep below the English Channel. With the clock ticking and the explosives primed, Shepherd and his colleagues have to decide just how far they are prepared to go to save innocent lives. And they realise that to avoid catastrophe, they have to be even more merciless than the terrorists.

Reviews

'There's a new breed of British crime writer giving the genre a much-needed shake-up - and Stephen Leather is at the forefront ... the sheer impetus of his storytelling is damned hard to resist.' -- Barry Forshaw, Daily Express 'This is an aggressively topical novel but a genuinely thrilling one, too. Readers after grand guignol will get all they expect and more, but they won't be able to duck the issues Leather explores. Whether Dan defeats the villains here or not, Leather's determination to engage with the real world means that a happy ending is impossible. Very exciting, but in no way escapist.' -- Daily Telegraph 'Leather, a former journalist turned one of the hottest killer-thriller writers around, this is another gritty drama played out in the knowledge that today's faction easily could become tomorrow's headlines.' -- Courier Mail, Australia 'COLD KILL is quite the page-turner, a novel the effect of which is all the more striking given the state of the real world' -- Gold Coast Bulletin, Australia 'A grand finale that'll have readers on edge' -- Literary Review 'It's hard not to be impressed with Stephen Leather's verve. Some of his set-pieces are magnificent.' -- Good Reading Guide 'There's a new breed of British crime writer giving the genre a much-needed shake-up - and Stephen Leather is at the forefront ... the sheer impetus of his storytelling is damned hard to resist.' -- Daily Express 'This is an aggressively topical novel but a genuinely thrilling one, too. Leather is an intelligent thriller writer' -- Daily Mail on THE TUNNEL RATS 'Leather, a former journalist, can dispense high-adrenaline plotting but never at the expense of remembering that his characters are humans rather than Action Dolls.' -- Sunday Express on SOFT TARGET
