Description

This volume consists of translations of the major works of Chaucer. The poems included are "The Book of the Duchess", "The House of Fame", "The Parliament of Birds" and "The Legend of Good Women". The poems go some way in spanning Chaucer's working life, with emphasis at the youthful end, and are all of the same genre - the love vision. The volume begins with a general essay on the place of the poems within the romance heritage of the love vision, and with in the scope and development of Chaucer's work. There is also a separate essay on each of the poems dealing with detailed background and critical approaches.
