Description

'Astonishing' Kiran Dass, Kete Miriam Lancewood's first book Woman in the Wilderness told her story of living for seven years in the wilderness of New Zealand with her husband, hunting and gathering, and roaming the mountains like nomads. Miriam and Peter left New Zealand to explore other wild places. They walked 2000 km through the forests of Europe and along the coast of Turkey, mostly camping under trees and cooking by fire. They lived on the edge, embracing insecurity, and found the unexpected: sometimes it was pure bliss, sometimes it was terrifying. But when they moved on to the Australian desert, they met with disaster. This gripping story is about life and death, courage and the power of love. Author Biography

Miriam Lancewood was born in 1983 and grew up in the Netherlands. She was a competitive pole-vaulter and studied Physical Education before travelling in Africa and India. There she met her New Zealand husband, and together they travelled for many years through Asia and Papua New Guinea before arriving in New Zealand. They lived primitively in the remote wilderness of the Southern Alps, and Miriam wrote her first book Woman in the Wilderness about that time.

Reviews

'Staying with a polygamous cult leader in Austria, avoiding bears in Bulgaria and a terrifying escape from a deranged West Australian who was convinced their lifestyle included free love. It's all in Miriam's new book.' Mark Crysell, Sunday Star Times 'A compelling yarn of derring do. There's a strong sense in Wild At Heart of Lancewood's focus, drive, determination and unquenchable thirst for adventure. She writes of the positive effects of this lifestyle on her body and mind and describes in vivid detail the sharpening of her senses, boundless energy and contentment. While not everyone will be inspired enough to give away all their possessions and go bush, this engaging memoir certainly serves as a vicarious thrill.' Kiran Dass, Kete 'Another bestseller. For those who dream of casting aside material possessions, walking off into the wilderness and living off and in tune with the land.' Alex Bligh, Otago Daily Times 'Gripping sequel to the international bestseller Woman in the Wilderness.' Professional Skipper
