Description

In the hotly anticipated follow-up to Jill & Dragon, feisty Jill and her loyal companion Dog are back and ready for another adventure. Reading a new picture book, Jill is horrified to discover a magnificent lion forced to join the circus and drive a toy car around in endless circles. Lion is so demoralised, his tears have started to blur the words of the story. Jill bravely decides to jump into the book and rescue Lion, landing in the middle of a particularly dangerous chapter. But with Dog at her side, nothing is too difficult for Jill to conquer, and she sets out to return Lion to his rightful place as king of the jungle. A charming celebration of friendship and bravery, Jill & Lion shows it isn't crowns that make us important - it's what's on the inside that counts.

Reviews

`[Barnes] uses bold, geometric shapes and flat colours, like spot colours, to create patterns and subsequent forms that are both decorative and descriptive. The effect is like a display of Brocks fireworks, rockets, sparklers, Catherine-wheels, roman fountains, that sparkle, dazzle and explode.' - Peter Allen, Varoom;`Jill and Lion is the follow-up tale to the equally stylish and retro-styled Jill and Dragon and is another wonderfully immersive tale of friendship, illustrated in Barnes' characteristic super-colourful 70s style.' - BookTrust; `Reinventing her signature style with an element of the retro circus, Barnes has created a rather stunning follow-up to the Dragon tale, detailed and ornate on every page . . . Blurring the boundaries between the reader and the yarn this is a book that really captures the essence of storytelling, loyal friendship and bravery.' - Keira Brown, The Fountain
