Author Biography

Blake Hoena has written more than 70 books for children-from DC Super Heroes chapter books to ABC picture books, choose-your-path adaptations of historic events, and a series of graphic novels about two space aliens, Eek and Ack, set on conquering our big blue home. His most recent publications include stories licensed through Tony Hawk and several titles in National Geographic's EVERTYHING series. Blake currently lives in St Paul, MN, with his dog, Ty, who's usually curled up at his feet while he writes. He took a special interest in Stubby's story because he often opens up his home to foster stray and abandoned dogs-that's how he met Ty, and he's helped find caring homes for Anna, Midas, Meagan, Diesel, Bernice, and many other loveable pooches.

Reviews

These picture books retell the stories of famous animals. Sgt. Reckless and Stubby were war heroes, while Laika was the first creature to be sent into outer space, and Scarlett rescued her kittens from a burning building. . . .Larger libraries or those in need of more titles on heroic animals may find this series of use.-- "School Library Journal" What a wonderful story! This dog was brave, smart, and truly a hero! . . .My favorite part was when the dog got the enemy by the pants! I think most kids will enjoy this book. Even if you don't like dogs, it is a sweet story about a hero that all will like.-- "San Francisco Book Review"
